-One of my best friends in the world… Randi… fellow book geek, movie geek, and culinary extraordinaire… we’re still debating starting up a cooking/food blog together. ;)Yesterday I saw Maggie Stiefvater and Tessa Gratton in Novi, MI. It was a fun event, and I wish I had thought to take more photos. I was so fascinated with conversations that I didn’t think about it 99% of the time. Still, I have two good ones of the authors, and one of a close friend. So I’m happy.
I was trying not to vomit. I had no idea what I was going to say to Maggie until I was up there. I wanted to thank her for making me cry, twice, in the first 25 pages of Forever, but I blanked. So, instead I opted to tell her how when I first read Shiver I did not like it at all… but after it sat with me a while I realized I loved it and how it became one of my favourite books that year. She graciously accepted the compliment. Tessa was very cool to meet as well… she’s so little and energetic! I adored her. It makes me very happy to have been able to have met her and Maggie both.
It was a great event, my first signing ever where I didn’t have to work it (which made for me being uber twitchy, I’m used to being needed). The crowd was great, the questions were coming, and the authors were smashing, so it was overall good. After the event we got to ogle Maggie’s infamous car, Loki, and I went to dinner with several authors – Aimee Carter, Leah Clifford, Courtney Allison Moulton, Chelsea Swiggett, Scott Tracey, and Leah Clifford’s Mom! (Bonus) … and Randi, of course.
… Randi pointed out people pointing me out at the signing… that’s a first…and weird…very very weird. I presumed it was from my having worked in a bookstore for many years (which some of it was) but not all. “People are looking at you, are you kind of a big deal?” to which I replied “Randi, haven’t you figured out by now that I am kind of a big deal?”
Self deprecation and denial at it’s finest.
Anywho, I have tons of signed books and (very soon) will have signed goodies up for everyone to try for… Including uber special copies of Blood Magic which Tessa doodled in and, she assured me, has never happened before! One of a kind signed books, folks…. keep watching, they’re coming.
We made Tessa’s live journal too, by the by. Have to throw that in there…so I can link back to her link and she can link back to my link…in that weird meta-textual incestuous way that is the interwebs.
Before I go though, a video. I’m half in love with this guy. I saw this yesterday and it reminded me so much of Nick from Blood Magic that I had to send it to her. Also, man this guy can dance.. I bet he gets a lot of ass.
