2011 goalwar update

I’m in desperate need of a rant. So I’m ranting. So there.

I’ve done nothing very productive recently bookwise. My original goal for 2011 is going poorly. At this time I have read 43 books… not a bad number if I was going by NUMBERS, as I did last year. The fact that I am doing a specific list is proving to be daunting, to say the least.

It probably doesn’t help that I have several high fantasy series on the list, and I haven’t been in the mood for high fantasy in some time. Hence the fact that they are still sitting around. The fact that several of them are 700+ pages isn’t helping that much either.

I’m beleaguered. I just haven’t been in the mood for any of the blue books. I don’t think I’m going to complete. I’m only at 13, and it’s April, so the possibility I may come close is fair, but only if I am in the mood to read these particular books. I feel like if I read them just for the task of checking them off the list I will find reasons to not complete them, and the only reason I should do that is if they are legitimately BAD books. I’m not going to throw the books aside just to finish the goal. Make sense?

I will probably read a small ton of books, just not the challenge ones. This distresses me, even though it’s only a bet with myself, and any of you folks out in the aether who give a shite.

Distressed I am. Yes. I don’t like losing bets with myself. Pout-pout-Krys.

Le sigh. Anywho, I have an idea that is semi-mad, now that I’ve griped about not finishing my challenge. I had a thought about you folks out there in the never ever. A lot of you seem to enjoy my thoughts on books and many people seem quite happy when I review something they are curious about, whether it be positive or negative. To that end, would anyone be interested in my doing a monthly (or bi-monthly) suggestion read from my readers. A challenge from you as it were?

For example:

BP: Hey, what book would you like me to read next?
You: Oh, read Hunger Games. I really want to know what you thought.
BP: I’ve already read HG, so stuff it!
You: Fine, read Ship Breaker by Bacigalupi then. You snotty elitist!

(Ship Breaker was the nearest book to me, for the record)

Also, I take insults with great praise, generally. Just remember that back biting calls for biting back. 😉

Thoughts? Yay or Nay? Or am I just being too ostentatious?

*Beleaguered apparently has four eeees in it. Who knew? Heart spellcheck.
