Hello all.

I’ve been sick on and off the last few weeks with the dreaded spring allergies. Now that I have myself back together, I can show you what has been coming in during my convalescence.

Behold.

Ace Roc Books pile 1

– Random goodies from work –

Mervyn Peake Alice

– A lovely move-in present from my best friend who ferried it from my old home to my new home during a visit…I have been wanting this book for ten years! It’s all of my favourite things! –

There are a few others that I acquired yesterday, and by that I mean two, but I will put those into the next perks post (too lazy just now to take a two-book photo. ūüėČ ). Things are going well with the new job. I like all the people there and it’s a good, positive environment. I am helping fix some internal, structural things and that is going well. Since I was sick and recovering I don’t have a lot of book news. I mostly watched a lot of Star Trek: The Original Series (Spock has my heart!).

Star Trek aside I have been reading. I am in the midst of two books that I am enjoying – The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh and The Notorious Pagan Jones by Nina Berry. Ahdieh’s book has taken me completely by surprise. I read the first few chapters of it one night and was dubious. Then I picked it up yesterday and blew through 200+ pages. I guess I was tired the other night. Berry’s book is also a lot of fun. It’s not my normal thing but I am enjoying it quite a bit, despite only picking it up because Spiderman was using the iPad and I couldn’t read my other book (which, at the time, was The Novice by Taran Matharu). So, I picked up the Berry in a fit of¬†pique¬†(because husband/iPad) but now I am full on board. It’s so much fun.

I have a ton of books that I have to read in the future. I have been downloading like mad and I am really excited about a lot of the titles. To that end, I will be putting a list of everything I have that’s upcoming (despite Christopher Moore’s very correct claim that “listing” is not “blogging”). I need to make myself a list for checks and balances reasons (or just “reasons”, as I am a list maker by nature). It helps me to have something to refer to since the giant piles of books are, literally, everywhere in my life.

I also am slowly working on more Middle Grade titles, as evinced by this post. I am still taking votes, so please leave your two cents (in the original post). I have been enjoying some of the middle grade in the quest to widen my reading. Some of it is not good, frankly. Some of it is amazing. The Little Prince is still rocking my world.

And Science Fiction, as always, I am trying to get better at. Fantasy I have quite a hold on. Traditional techy sci-fi though…I am trying. I started The Wind-Up Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi and I wasn’t feeling it right now. Will try again at a later date.

Also, I was accepted into the new Penguin Ace Roc Stars Street team, hence the first package of awesome up top. I reviewed Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine for an upcoming print edition of RT magazine (Spoiler Alert: it’s¬†wonderful). The other books I have to catch up with. I still need to go get a library card (is that a thing anymore? The actual card part I mean?) so that I can read the first Charlaine Harris book and then it’s on. I suppose I can read the Jim Butcher sampler (since it’s a sampler). Sigh…Slowly working through all the things.

Speaking of ALL THE THINGS…The lists.
