The Perks of Being a Bookseller: Part 55

Hello all.

It’s been an interesting non-book week(s) for me here since my last Perks post. Perish the thought.

I have had a week of poor focus, so I have been trickling through books at a slower pace than usual. But I’ll chat about that in a moment. Here’s this week’s book porn.

I’m very curious about Afterworlds by Westerfeld. I haven’t read him for a while, and I’m geeked for something new. Auto Biography came and my husband has already read it. The Jungle is for him too, off of another book he has been reading lately. I think The Bees is (jokingly) for him too, but he has no interest so I might read it. Eventually.

I am currently reading through The Immortal Crown by Richelle Mead and Nos4a2 by Joe Hill. both of them are very compelling, but as I said previously my focus is terrible. I spent a few days doing everything but reading recently and it’s killing my reading progress. But they are both good so far, and I am enjoying them, though I am a bit horrified as well. Nos4a2 is horror and The Immortal Crown has a heavy mistreatment of women aspect that is bothering me. A lot.

And I’m cutting this week short, since I don’t have a lot of time. What are you reading this week? What are you most looking forward to reading in the future?

Happy books.

Afterworlds sounds REALLY interesting – as a novelist, novels about novelists always interest me! 😉 I haven’t read any Westerfeld in a while either, but I have read several series and standalones of his, so I’m looking forward to returning to him. Excited for your review.

Sorry to hear you’ve been having reading troubles! Maybe if you allow yourself to take a day off from reading, it would help? Forcing oneself to read can sometimes just make it worse. I think it’s good to take a day or two break here and there – when a person chain-reads so much, the occasional break is a necessity.

I have less than 100 pages to go in Rebel Belle, which I’ve been powering through this weekend (I just got it Sat afternoon) so I’ll have it read before meeting the author tomorrow night! Next after that is The Chapel Wars, which looks really cute and fun.

Happy reading! 🙂
