The Perks of Being a Bookseller: Part 52

Hello loves.

It’s Monday. I’ve got the latest episode of Under the Gunn streaming and I am ready to talk books. So, here’s my pile for the week.

Two different loads of Harpercollins. And yes, I think they are all duplicates. Again.

Obviously, we had the TV on. That is Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear. The Beekeeper likes Top Gear. I Like Top Gear despite not liking cars like he does. They’re really funny. Yep.

Also, somewhere around the last two weeks, this happened.

I rewatched Gone with the Wind, which made me want to reread the book. I read it years ago, and by that I mean years ago… in grade school.

Seriously yo, grade school.

O _ O

I was a precocious little one. I was.

(act surprised)

So, I pulled my old copy out of my shelves and found my (ancient) bookmark in the last spot that I had left off (page 748). Then I discovered that my copy I have had forever was actually my mom’s. So, I’m returning that to her. I treated myself to a new copy which I want to read this year. When I will actually get around to read the book, I have no idea. I would loved to launch headlong into it now. However…

However… books. All the books.

(Actually, when I was putting this pile together I rewatched Scarlett as well. That didn’t help.)

So, clearly, it has to happen. I’m wondering if I can hold out until my summer week vacation in July/August. But… But that’s so far away, and I want to read the book now! *stomps foot*

I did say this online this week though –

“Once in a while I realize that my youthful tendency for self-sabotage is still alive and well in my adult self. It now just manifests itself in very different ways.

Example: I now have over 1700 unread books in my apartment and all I want to do is reread Gone with the Wind.

Sigh. Bookseller/Booklover problems.”

It’s so true. All of it. I swear. Including the 1700 unread books.

I had a nine-day break from work until yesterday. My first day back was good. No drama, level head, and I got things done. That’s what you want going back to work after such a gap. I could have used another week, but I’m quibbling. I got a lot done in the time I had. I actually read five (ish) books. I’m still working on Grim (Edited) by Christine Johnson. I also started The Ring and the Crown by Melissa de la Cruz, which I am loving. I haven’t read her in a few years and this book is reminding me of why I have always liked her. It’s her style with the volume turned up. If it continues in this vein I am sure I am going to love it. Anya from On Starships and Dragonwings was kind enough to loan me a physical ARC. Surprisingly, this was not something I acquired a copy of. I think I need to work on getting a (better) Disney connection. Or utilizing mine more frequently.

What else? Oh! I have good news. This weekend I was white-listed on Edelweiss for all of the younger Random House imprints. I’m super geeked about this… more access! Moar books! I’m currently working on the approval for Penguin. My request to my rep has been kicked up to “the Gatekeeper” of white-listing. Which sounds all mysterious and wonderful and I hope I am found worthy of the privilege.

I think that might be it. How is everyone else’s day going? What are you reading right now? What are you looking forward to read?

Until next week.

Excellent additions this week! I’m really excited for The Murder Complex, The Art of Lainey, and Wild, and cannot express how desperate I am for Kasie West’s latest, On the Fence! It’s too bad you don’t take bribes for duplicates. 😉

I’m almost finished with Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, although I’ve been on the same chapter for a week now because I got a really nasty cold last week and only felt like reading manga. This led me to discover an awesome new series, though – Strobe Edge! I’ve read 6 volumes now and it’ll be painful waiting for the rest to release. Happy reading, and good luck with your 1700 and counting! 🙂

I actually do exchange with a group of people, so some of the duplicates have already been claimed. Just so you know, I have a Murder Complex giveaway coming up. 🙂

Wish I could exchange with you! But the odds of me having anything you don’t already have are like minus five percent. 😉 Thanks for the heads up about the Murder Complex giveaway – will definitely keep an eye out for it! 🙂
