The Perks of Being a Bookseller: Part 50

Hello friends and readers alike.

I had some technical difficulties this week with my wi-fi device. I’m still not sure if it is working but thanks to an older router (that I did not know existed) I am now able to update all of my online haunts. It just means that I have no wi-fi and can’t watch the latest episode of Downton in the bath tub.

(No spoilers please!)

The thing that was most annoying about the wi-fi being useless this weekend is that I couldn’t live-tweet the read-a-thon between Anya at On Starships and Dragonwings and I. The internet got resurrected too late, so you couldn’t be in on the action.

But.. this is how we spent our weekend.

– Crash pads –

It wasn’t always this idyllic, trust me. But mostly it was pretty damn good. I finished The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski (review here), read all of The False Prince and The Runaway King by Jennifer A. Nielsen (reviews to come). I have since given up finishing the third book in the series, The Shadow Throne. They’re just not for me.

I will do another read-a-thon though. Those are for me. It might only be one 24 hour period though. The 48 hour period, while excellent in theory, is harder to do in practice. My mind started to wander somewhere around the 35th hour. Or maybe I just wanted the internet back (sweet, sweet internet. Pets.).

Here’s another picture of the weekend revels.

– Command Central –

(This was also not this idyllic. And shifted positions.)

But you came here to look at books and not book nests. So, without any further adieu, here is what I received this week.

– Pile o’books from work –

– Secondary pile –

Lots of duplicates and lots of good things. The books I am most excited for are Otherbound, Dissonance, End Times, and The Heiresses.  My tastes run a little all over the map these days.

I just started reading Colleen Hoover’s Maybe Someday, which releases in a few weeks. I got on a high fantasy kick and I need something completely contemporary and uncomplicated. Therefore, it’s perfect. I have a host of books to focus on, but I am taking a vacation from work soon and I intend to put a dent in my e-copies.

I also plan on reading a couple of books that have been around these parts forever – Before I Fall and The Book Thief. I actually have an ARC of Zusak from years ago (the release date says 2007. Oops.). I’m trying to hunt down all of those books that have been around (forever) that are advanced copies and read them (or purge them). It’s proving difficult as I have book nooks all over my apartment. I have things that I have, quite literally, forgotten that I have.

To that end… I have CONTESTS you should enter.

There are lots of contests coming up, so if you are interested you should follow the blog. You don’t want to miss some of the goodies.

Oh, what else. Oh, nothing else I guess. I’m at the end of my wind. What are you reading currently and what are you looking forward to?

Happy reading all.

Glad to hear the read-a-thon went well! Bummed you didn’t enjoy the Ascendance trilogy, though – I loved False Prince and was really looking forward to the rest of the series. Excellent book haul this week – I hadn’t heard of Otherbound or Dissonance before, but now I’m really excited for them! You always have a few titles I’ve never heard of, and I enjoy looking them up and discovering them. Happy reading this week! 🙂
