The Perks of Being a Bookseller – Part 30

Hello all.

I’ve had some trouble getting my computer to abide by my wishes today. But I think I finally managed to beat it into submission. It’s getting a little touchy these days. I think it might be time for some work.

Other than that, here are the goodies that came in this week.

– Random goodies acquired throughout the week –

DSCF1552

– Macmillan Fall/Winter 2013 titles –

DSCF1562

– Penguin Sprincg 2014 titles –

So yeah, a whole lot of swag as you can see. Lots of books for me to read… so little time.

I have about a million and a half projects going on and they’re all pulling me in different directions. I’m currently reading two books – These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner and The Pledge by Kimberly Derting. These Broken Stars is kind of rocking my world. The Pledge is a reread so that I can catch up in the series and read both The Essence and The Offering. But I’m less devoted to it right now than to These Broken Stars. Which is bloody wonderful, but I can’t read it in the tub, or on my walks, since it’s on the reading gizmo. And it’s all I want to read RIGHT NOW.

Sigh.

* Dejectedly sets The Pledge next to the tub and stares longingly at the iPad *

This is what happens when I read multiple books in one go. One always pulls ahead.

The second half million things I have going on are all read-a-long projects that I have fallen ass backwards into. Well, technically I am reading These Broken Stars with several folks, but it’s so much fun that I’m not minding it. On the Lou tribute front – I expect that I will start Dune in the next week or so. I’ve just been overwhelmed with side projects. I also have to start reading Oryx and Crake for my big-girl book group. I have NO idea when I will be able to get to either one. Truthfully, I have no time.

And I have four books on my gadget expiring in two weeks.

And I have to (re)read Interview with the Vampire immediately following Oryx for said same big-girl group.

And the numerous titles that came in this week, added to the pile of goodies that I have sitting here.

… need more time… All work and no play make Krys something… something…

And speaking of this mythical thing called time guess what I stupidly started to do last night… edit my own MS from last December. Because I’m a masochist, clearly.

… heavy sigh…

First world problems… and, frankly, the best ones to have.

I do have a few neato things going on that I can’t talk about yet. You will have to wait a few weeks to hear about those though. I can’t speak about “things” just yet. But it’s very, very cool. And I am being very, very quiet.

(I’m hunting wabbits).

Okay, I’m rambling on. And the tub is full. So I am off to read Kim Derting. What are you all reading right now? What are you looking forward to reading?

Wow, Krys! That is a haul! I get stressed just looking at it! I’m interested in hearing about the Inventor’s Secret and After Eden. I’ve actually not heard of some of those but I’ll have to look at them to see if I want to add them to my list. Just when my pile is dwindling yours has grown by leaps and bounds! I love These Broken Stars! So happy it’s living up to what we wanted!

I’m currently using books to avoid my MS. The longer I avoid it the more I want it, so I might actually be in the mood to write again soon! I’m reading The Art of Wishing by Lindsay Ribar and Scent of Magic by Maria V. Snyder. Both are good but I am loving Wishing. It’s so stinkin cute. I just finished Poison by Bridget Zinn and that was really great. I’ve been dying to read these three so I feel like I’m in happy land. I forced myself to finish Reached so that trilogy is done thank heavens! I’m also avoiding the Lux Omnibus by Jalex Hansen. I won it in a giveaway so I wanted to love it but I just don’t.

I have a friend who double ziplocs his reading device in order to read it in the tub (these were details I actually didn’t need about said friend and his bathing btw), so you might try that once you feel experimental, which I realize won’t be for a number of years 🙂
