Well, that’s the final book in Richelle Mead’s Dark Swan series… done. I’ve waited a long time after buying it to read this book. I didn’t want it to be done. However, this week my mood called to return to the Otherworld. So, given that this book was necessary for my happiness. Clearly.

In Shadow Heir shaman-for-hire Eugenie Markham is laboring to protect her unborn twins from the prophesy of the Storm King. If the prophesy is true than Eugenie’s unborn son will be the one to destroy the humans. While she is convalescing in secret a blight overcomes the Otherworld. Several kingdoms are buried under perpetual winter and Eugenie has to return to help out. But the safety of her children must come first.

It’s hard to let this series go. However, that said, it was a great ending. Everything was resolved in a way that was satisfactory to me. I am constantly astounded by how Mead manages to tie up her plot twists. I kinda want to crawl inside of her brain and see how the mechanics work. However, until I can I will have to be happy with her books. And I am happy with them.

As with the previous books this isn’t perfect. However, it’s so good it barely matters in the overall scheme of things. As with the other books I’m giving this a solid 4 out of 5 stars and that will be ranking for the entire series. 4 out of 5 stars. I adored Mead’s take on the world of the fey. I can’t wait to see what she does next.
