Occupy Amazon – Buy Locally/Independent

There’s a great article in the NYT about Amazon’s recent strategy to use their shoppers to price check competitor’s prices at local businesses. There is also a short blog post about people who use local bookstores as a showroom before then purchasing at the multi-billion dollar corporation. Both are worth checking out.

Also, there is an Occupy Amazon Movement that has started gaining legs on the Internet. I support the idea of buying locally when you can, especially if it is impulse buy purchases that generate revenue within your local community, support independent businesses, and keep the employment rate solid. I’ve worked at a local bookstore for 6 years and running strong. It makes me sick that Amazon has resorted to this tactic to line their (already overfull) coffers. They just can’t let the little guy win, can they?

If anyone cares about this at all you should walk into your local bookstore (those who have one) and buy at least one item from them this holiday season. It’s not just about saving a few bucks. It’s about showing support for people who are becoming paralyzed with fear that our way of life is changing in a way that will not impact anyone in a positive way…except a corporate giant. If you do not have a bookstore in your community and would like to support an independent store you could purchase a book online from the company I work for. Here is their website. Shipping is free through the end of January.

Thank you. *end rant*
