Review – Spider’s Revenge

I kind of feel as if I am saying goodbye to an old friend with the completion of this book. Spider’s Revenge by Jennifer Estep is the fifth book in her flawless Elemental Assassin series and, quite frankly, probably one of the best. God, how is it possible that these books keep getting better. They’re perfect, how can one improve upon that?Anywho, must write a review here, none of this gushing and fawning. There’s time enough for that later.

Gin Blanco, a.k.a the Spider, is determined to kill her long-standing enemy – Mab Monroe, the deadly Fire Elemental who runs Ashland’s crime scene with an iron thumb. While trying to kill her Gin discovers a disheartening thing; Mab has hired an army of bounty hunters all for the purpose of removing the Spider from her hair. When the hit fails, Gin has to pull upon every resource she has to be able to get the task done. But Mab is not without her own devious tricks. Soon Gin finds herself in a position that could compromise everything.

There is a definitive plot started in the first book that ends in this one. Because of that it feels like the end of the series, or the beginning of another. However, we’re in luck. We have two new books coming down the pipe in the next year. Squee!

(It’s Beautiful! I can’t wait!!!)

At this point I think that Estep has, quite possible, one of the best Urban Fantasy series going on the market. I cannot come up with a single thing about these books that I dislike, nor can I forget what happens in any of her books. The story lines, the characters, every single thing is pitch perfect. It’s like listening to an orchestra being absolutely on for an entire symphony. It’s just lush and gorgeous and humbling how amazing these books are. If you have yet to read Spider’s Bite, I envy you. You get the chance to read them for the first time. And I want that and can’t have it again. Boo.

I think it goes without saying that I absolutely loved this. Phenomenal. 5 out of 5 stars.
