Well, it’s happened. Katniss Everdeen has been cast.

I’m not sure how to feel about this one. I haven’t seen Winter’s Bone yet, so I’m new to Jennifer Lawrence.. besides the buzz. My obvious complaint is that she doesn’t physically resemble the Katniss I conjured in my mind while I was reading Collins’ books. However, my complaint does not compare to this one.

I guess I did the white girl thing too. I presumed Katniss was white, or, at least Mediterranean looking. When I cast her in my head I pictured the people I knew growing up with olive skin who were of Greek or Italian descent, including my own family (who fall into the French/Italian/German category). I agree that Lawrence is too pale for the role given Collins description, but whether this makes her unsuitable is totally up in the air for the moment. I really wanted an unknown. An Academy Award nominated actress… we’ll see.

No one else has been cast yet, though I recently saw rumours online about Alex Pettyfer as a possibility (or, at the very least, a fan favourite) for Peeta,  who may also be Jace in the City of Bones adaptation. Must he be Hollywood’s go-to-boy for YA film adaptations? Really? Really really? Can we make it stop and just ask anyone else to do it? Please?

Yes, I’m still pissed about I am Number Four. Sorry, but I am. Thoughts?
