Review – Last Sacrifice

I’m expecting to go into withdrawal now. Richelle Mead has completed her Vampire Academy series; Last Sacrifice marks the departure from the world of Rose and company. To be fair there is a new spin-off series, Bloodlines, coming out next year but it doesn’t follow Rose, and Dimitri, and Lissa, et al. It does, however, follow Sydney… and man am I geeked to read more about the alchemists. Squee.

But I’m gushing. Moving on.

Rose has been imprisoned for assassinating Queen Titania. Rose, of course, did not kill her, but she has to prove her innocence. Breaking out of the gaol Rose and Dimitri book it to find evidence, gathering Sydney along the way. They discover secrets that have enough gravitas to rock the entire Moroi foundation.

If I say more I will spoil the book. However, rest assured fans of Mead, that it’s a great ending completely worthy of the rest of the series. I’m very happy with what Mead did and how she tied things up. I wanted maybe one different plot point, the settling of accounts via the love interests. Suffice it to say, I was rooting for the other guy. But, that’s just me. I’m happy with the choice. I was expecting it, but I like being contrary.

Overall, so pleased with this book, and this series in general. And to think three years ago I rolled my eyes and abandoned my ARC of the first one upon seeing the cover. So happy I was convinced to pick them up. I am now an ardent fan of all things Richelle Mead.

5 out of 5 stars.
