Well, I gave it my customary 75 pages, but it failed to capture my attention. Gillian Shields did absolutely nothing for me. Usually this kind of premise is up my ally – orphaned girl taken in by a specialized prep school, secluded and snooty… and then something bizarro happens. Well, in this I didn’t even get far enough to find anything interesting about this. So I turned to online spoilers, and from what I saw there it was more of the same. Blah. The writing was pretty meager too. Twice she used the word “Unpunctual” in some derivation. Really? Is that even a word?
(You know it’s pretty bleak when I start noting grammar stuff. Sheesh.)
Immortal gets compared to Libba Bray and the Bronte sisters. That should appeal to me. However, this fell totally flat of expectations. I tentatively wonder if it’s my fault. I started this just after Ally Condie’s Matched and my head is still in that book. Oh well.
